Fish ID Diver Course

The Fish ID course teaches you the secrets to identifying the marine life you see underwater.

Have you ever been on a dive, spotted a bizarre or beautiful creature, and wondered, “What was that?” The Fish ID course teaches you the secrets to identifying the marine life you see underwater. Instead of trying to memorize thousands of individual species, you will learn to recognize specific fish families, physical characteristics, and behaviors, allowing you to easily identify fish anywhere in the world!
  • Duration: ~1 day
  • Cost: US$170 (plus tax)

Any certified diver from the age of 10 who wants to feel more connected to the underwater world should take this course. It is a fantastic specialty for beginners and experienced divers alike, as well as anyone who loves keeping a dive log and wants to accurately record the amazing marine life they encounter in Roatan.

The Fish ID course is a fun, highly engaging 1-day specialty. To maximize your time exploring the reef, we send your digital E-Learning materials ahead of time so you can learn the fundamentals of fish grouping and anatomy before your vacation even starts.
A typical course consists of:
  • Digital theory chapters covering fish families, identification techniques, and habitat clues
  • 2 open water boat dives where you will use your new skills to identify, count, and log different fish species in their natural habitats

The course fee of US$170 (+ tax) is fully inclusive. It covers all E-Learning materials, high-quality rental equipment, boat fees, and your digital Fish ID Specialty certification card upon completion.

Upon completing the course, you will never look at a coral reef the same way again. You will be able to effortlessly categorize the marine life you see on any future dive vacation globally. This training also empowers you to participate as a volunteer in global marine conservation and citizen-science fish counts.
