Underwater Navigator

Underwater Navigator Course

The Underwater Navigator course takes the mystery out of underwater direction.

Have you ever wondered how your dive guide always manages to find their way straight back to the boat? The Underwater Navigator course takes the mystery out of underwater direction. You will master the art of using a compass, learn to read natural clues like sand ripples and rock formations, and gain the skills needed to lead a dive confidently without getting lost.
  • Duration: 1 to 2 days
  • Cost: US$170 (plus tax)

Anyone from the age of 10 who holds an Open Water Diver certification (or higher) can take this course. It is highly recommended for divers who want to stop relying completely on a guide and start taking the lead. If you want to boost your confidence, reduce pre-dive anxiety, and become the buddy everyone wants to follow, this is the perfect specialty for you.

The Underwater Navigator course balances essential navigation theory with practical, precision-focused water work. We will send you your E-Learning materials ahead of time so you can review the concepts at home, ensuring your vacation time is spent entirely in the water.

A typical course consists of:
  • Digital theory chapters covering distance estimation, compass navigation, and underwater map making
  • Dry-land practice to perfect your compass heading and tracking techniques before getting wet
  • 3 open water training dives where you will practice measuring distance, navigating complex search patterns, and finding your way back to a specific exit point from various locations

The course fee of US$170 (+ tax) is fully inclusive. It covers all E-Learning materials, high-quality standard dive gear rental, the use of specialized underwater navigation equipment (compasses and slates), boat training dives, and your digital Underwater Navigator Specialty certification card.

Upon graduation, you will be able to plan and execute underwater routes with your buddy, vastly improving your independence and safety as a diver. Accurate navigation means fewer long surface swims and more time exploring the reef.
